PNT DESTINATION SPOTLIGHT: HOLLYWOOD

It’s almost time for the Academy Awards, so this is the perfect time to debut our “Destination Spotlight” to Hollywood. The town is synonymous with the film industry and the historical center of studios and movie stars.
Sandy and I toured Tinseltown a few years ago. Like most visitors, we hoped to catch a glimpse of a movie star. Alas, on the last day, we made a sighting.  Check out the photos below and you will see our celebrity!

We’ve compiled our “must do” list:

  • Walk of Fame – Honors icons of the past and present with stars on the sidewalks of Hollywood Blvd. and Vine Street.  There are over 2400 stars spread along 18 blocks.

  • The Hollywood Sign – Sitting atop Mount Lee, it is a symbol of the entertainment industry.

Hooray for Hollywood!!
  •  Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel – Shirley Temple took her first tap dancing lessons from Bill “Bojangles”  Robinson on the hotel’s  fabulous stairway.  The first Academy Awards ceremony was held here in 1929.

Grauman's Chinese Theatre

  • Grauman’s Chinese Theatre – It opened in 1927 and has over 200 hand and footprints of Hollywood legends in cement.

One of my favorites....Shirley Temple

  • Kodak Theatre -  It is now the permanent home of the Oscars.  The red carpets will be rolled out here for the Feb. 27 ceremony.

The Uffizi is one of the finest art galleries in the world and offers the greatest collection of Italian Renaissance paintings. It also houses great works from Holland, Germany and Spain. Building of the palace began in 1560 and continued through 1581.
This museum is one of the most visited sites in Florence and can have long lines (especially in July) that may take 5 hours for admittance.  Advance ticket purchases are recommended during this peak time.
